I work with the children at church, and I love it. Yesterday's lesson topic was on preparing now to be a mother or father. Each of us made a "Mustache Promise;" promising what each of us would work on today in preparation of parenthood. The kids were so excited to have their own mustache. Their comments were hilarious.
One boy that's eleven said, "What if I already have a mustache?"
{He does, so I couldn't stop laughing.}
Another girl said, "I look like Mario."
{She didn't but, her brother did. The laughter ensued.}
Happy Thanksgiving! The Yazzies had such a wonderful, simple celebration. We started our day with a delicious breakfast at IHOP. Bryan had stuffed French toast, and I, the strawberry hotcakes. We had such a divine brunch laughing and thoughtfully chewing.
We prepared the feast together, but Bunnie did 3/4 of the work. What a great guy right?! He cooks amazing potatoes; every variety. The food turned out terrific, and the leftover are wondrous! I was obsessed with the culinary textures. The menu was as follows:
Sweet Potatoes
Mashed Potatoes
Pecan Encrusted Salmon
Corn Bread
Baked Asparagus
Stuffing
Sparkling Cranberry
Pecan Pie
Pumpkin Pie
Home Made Whipped Cream
During dinner Bryan and I mused over what we were/are grateful for. The underlining theme; family, friends, our jobs, residing in California, our fortitude of cozi-tude {flat} music, acting, Soba, religion, laughter and our amazing marriage. We are dang happy and in love. How was your holiday? Are you still celebrating? Lucky you!
A woman that I completely admired lived her life by these words. Her list inspires me to improve and prune my own life, and allow a personal renaissance to begin. Lisa, you touched so many lives and your legacy continues to perpetuate. {click on image to enlarge.}
Remember my secret wish to own Napoleon's Coat?{here.}Well, I found a female/modern answer to my wish. I feel like I need some vintage war medals on the lapel however. I'll work on it. Perhaps E-Bay? Or a costume shop? I found the Jacket at Forever 21 for $38. Not bad. I don't feel like I'm ready to conquer the world literally, but perhaps I do figuratively. Thanks for the inspiration Napoleon.
Yesterday we went to Disneyland with our friends. We had such a fun adventure. This trip was my most unique visit to date. We rode just a handful of rides but completely enjoyed the Christmas spirit that wrapped 'round about us. New experiences for me:
Captain Jack Sparrow's presence in the Pirates of the Caribbean
Ice Cream at the sweet shoppe
Dinner at the Blue Bayou Cafe!! Amazing food and atmosphere.
Space Blasters {I beat Bunnie!}
Safari Boat Ride
Tom Sawyers' Island
Experiencing the wonder with my bunnie
The few pictures I took are barely indicative of Disneyland. But, in truth I was too busy eating and laughing to take my regular photo shoot liberties! Post Script: Doesn't Rachel look beautiful with her shaved head? She is a beautiful, brave woman!
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary a winner and loser are defined as such;
winner
one that is successful especially through praiseworthy ability and hard work
a victor especially in games or sports
one that wins admiration
loser
a person or thing that loses especially or consistently
a person who is incompetent or unable to succeed; also: doomed to fail or disappoint
I'm feeling a wee bit loser-ish this evening. This year has been capitulated by the secondary definition. I feel uneasy with my constancy in losing. The definition of insanity is repeating the same actions over again and expecting a different result. Am I lacking sanity? Am I the epitome of a loser, "doomed to fail or disappoint?" This is rhetorical of course, but completely and utterly fascinating. I've always believed the cliche "slow and steady wins the race." Perhaps that's something we tell little Suzy while patting her on the head before sending her to bed.
This weekend past I had a friend with a big audition the next day. I said to her, "Okay, you better wear your power color." To which she replied, "what's that?" Each of us have colors that seem to "pop" against our skin and hair. It's that color that everyone tells you they love on you, every single time you wear it. In my opinion wearing a color that's unattractive is equally deplorable as wearing clothes that are ill fitting and wrong for one's body type.
Determining power colors:
There are four seasons that your skin tones can pull from:
1.Spring-Usually have golden undertones in skin, peachy, or creamy white. Hair is usually strawberry, or blonde, you have freckles and eyes are blue or green.
2.Summer-Blue or pink undertones, skin is pale or pinkish, usually blondes or brunettes with light colored eyes.
3.Fall-Golden undertones in skin, most redheads are falls along with brunettes with hazel eyes.
4.Winter-Usually have blue or pink undertones, most Asians and African Americans or brunettes with brown eyes.
I hope that by recognizing your power colors it will aid you in feeling like the glamorous, beautiful creature that you are. Now that you know how to dress your body type, and have a knowledge of what colors flatter your skins tone; You can enjoy shopping with a new found sense of ease and purpose!
Thank you ehow.com for much of my research and workchic.com for the image.
My favorite piece of art was from an exhibition called "In Captivity." I was curious about a globe-esque sphere that I spied from across the room. I crossed the path while dodging a slew of misfit spectators to look at the object further. "What's so special about this?" I thought. Then I looked closer. Upon my inspection: I found a live lady bug colony! I adore lady bugs. Isn't that clever? Absolutely brilliant. Expect the unexpected in Los Angeles.
Last night Bunnie and I visited the down town art walk. I relish the opportunity to check out art in it's rawest forms. Our friends Steven and Emilio created an art installation that we so enjoyed. It was entitled, "Futurismo," a futuristic look into the desert. My favorite part was the space age tepee. It was a hoot going inside. Note to self: buy or make a tepee of my own. P.S. These photos look like an homage to 2001 A Space Odyssey.
November 20, 2009 at 12:20am, I will be experiencing NEW MOON at the famous Archlight Theater in West Hollywood. I can't believe the moment has finally arrived after months of anticipation and heightened speculation. I look forward to getting my Jacob and Edward fix on! The rumors are true; I am Twi-Heart, don't judge.
These are some polaroids from yesterday's excursion to the always intriguing Norton Simon Museum. The weather was positively perfect; not too hot, and not too cold. I dare say Goldilocks would have chosen yesterday's weather! The top picture makes me laugh because I was mid crouch (trying to get to sister's 5 ft. height) when our photographer snapped the picture without warner. What a pipsqueak! You always warn a woman before taking a photo!
Sister and I went to the Norton Simon Museum this afternoon. After taking in priceless works of art, we lunched at La Grande Orange for nachitos and chocolate nouveau cake. Is it possible to die of extreme culinary pleasure? The above pictures are some of my favorite pieces, paired with a couple of silly, out of focus pictures we snapped before we got in trouble by the curator! Tomorrow I'll share some polaroids we took in the gardens. I love stolen afternoons, perfect California weather, and a tiny sister to laugh with.
My husband recently bought me an impossibly tattered copy of Sylvia Plath's THE BELL JAR. {I love it when books are already broken in.} I'm only two pages in, and I'm completely enamored by her aptitude for writing. Her fourth paragraph completely capitulates how I felt my first few years out of college;
"(I knew something was wrong with me that summer, because all I could think about was the Rosenbergs and how stupid I'd been to buy all those uncomfortable, expensive clothes, hanging limp as fish in my closet, and how all the little successes I'd totted up so happily at college fizzled to nothing outsidethe slick marble and plate glass fronts along Madison Avenue.)" -Sylvia Plath
Hooray for my lovely November tablecloth. I found it on clearance at T.J. Maxx when Bunnie and I were in New Mexico for the fourth of July! My party blooms look tres seasonal paired with the rust colored, paisley cloth. Is your house boasting this lovely change of season?
