It's Soba's Birthday Too....

Yesterday I received a surprise e-mail from Nikki of the Mutt Scouts {the shelter we got Soba from} click {here.}  She remembered that it was Soba's Birthday, and wanted to wish him well.  How thoughtful is that?! She also gave me the above pictures of my little guy. I had never seen any of them before.  What a treasure.  Soba with his two brothers!  Tear. He's on the top in the first picture, and extending his arm over his brother in the 2nd.

Dear Soba,

Happy 2nd Birthday Chunky.  Mom and Dad love you so much. You've been such a good boy over the last two years.  You are kind, funny, sweet, all mixed in with just a dash of trouble maker.  We are so glad that you are ours.  We promise to take you back to the beach soon, because we know it's your favorite.

Xo,

Mom and Dad

Birthday.

I've been celebrating my Birthday every day since last Thursday.  But today will mark the actual increase. I love Birthdays, and I think that this year is going to be wonderful.  Over the last year I've stretched and grown so very much.  I've become a better wife, actor, friend, and a better teacher.  I've increased my knowledge base spiritually, personally, artistically, and professionally.  I've made new friends, and maintained valued friendships with my old friends.

My favorite moments of last year were:

This family portrait:  {here.}

My first demo reel:  {here.}

Falling for macarons:  {here.}

Channeling Miss Frizzle:  {here.}

Liveliest inspiration board to date: {here.}

The Aztec Ruins:  {here.}

Mastering French Toast:  {here.}

The Wild Things Contest:  {here.}

Our Bunnie Moon:  {here.}

I've made some fascinating goals to achieve prior to my next Birthday.  I'm excited to share them with you, as I cross them off one by one.  Hooray for becoming one year older and wiser too!

So Good You Could Eat It.

I dunno which one smells better; my cherry chip cupcakes, or the roses.  I love them both so much I could burst.

Most Rentable: The Diving Bell And The Butterfly.

In French the novel, and film is known as Le Scaphandre et le Papillon.  Jean-Dominque Bauby, a forty-two-year-old man suffers from a massive stroke.  Bauby survives, but suffers from what's known as "locked in syndrome."  An extremely rare condition where the patient is completely immobile, but the brain continues to function perfectly.  Frame by frame the film is a flickering work of art.  Orchestrated exquisitely by world renowned artist Julian Schnabel {who decided to try his hand at directing.}  The plot unfolds regret while visiting memories and simple pleasantries of Bauby's past.  I was inspired to live, feel, and be grateful for every breath and movement.  Please rent this gorgeous piece of cinema.

Faces.

Funny faces are all around us.  I don't ever look for them-they find me.  This funny face found me at Brite Spot Diner from Echo Park.  I had to share the evidence.  Do you find faces everywhere you look?

Creativity Tuesday: Fall Inspiration Board.

I adore fall. I woke up inspired
to create an autumnal inspiration board.  This season I'm inspired by
feathers, butterflies, leather bound books, cozy wool sweaters, and
interior vignettes.  What's inspiring you for fall?

Culture Club: Apartment Hunting.

The Yazzies went apartment shopping last weekend.  We found an awesome loft.  It had the following modern conveniences:

  1. fridge

  2. dishwasher

  3. microwave

  4. washer

  5. dryer

  6. counter space

In Los Angeles it's difficult to come by spaces that have all of those modern amenities.  I had a single tear trickle down my face.  We're not moving yet.  We're still looking around.  But we loved the above space.  It was our favorite thus far.

Easy As 1,2,3.

Amber suggested that I try the alternative use for the classic Jiffy blueberry muffin recipe.  It did not disappoint as a pancake.

Re-Rentable: So I Married An Axe Murderer.

Sister and I revisited this slice o' comedic genius last weekend.  It is my favorite comedy of all time.  This was the Mike Myers fresh off of the blush of SNL, Post Wayne's World, pre-Austin Powers.  It is perfection.  Take Charlie Mackenzie, a son of Scottish parents living in San Francisco in the nineties.  He loves the ladies, but fears commitment.  Right when he gets close to a woman, he finds something wrong with them and retreats.  "She smelled exactly like vegetable beef soup."  Mix in a brother with a big head, a flirtatious mom, and a conspiracy theory believing father, and you've got So I Married An Axe Murderer.  Make it a Blockbuster night for this one.

Sisterly Picnic at Griffith.

What is it with women loving picnics?  It's an ongoing joke between my friend Rachel and I.  All I ever want to do is go on a picnic.  And NO ONE ever wants to go on one.  Whenever Bryan asks what I want to do on date night, I usually suggest a picnic.  Let's just say that suggestion hasn't been noted since our courtship.  {Dudes HATE picnics and going on walks.}  It's a known fact.  I think it goes against their very nature.

Last Sunday evening felt tres autumnal.  I immediately thought of how lovely it would be to eat al fresco.  Fortunately, my sister happily complied.  We walked to Griffith Park, and enjoyed a lovely picnic together.  The Snowmen mugs are a gift that I'd rather not discuss.  They are the antithesis of ergonomically correct.  The bottom two pictures are our interpretation of trolls.

Creativity Tuesday: Fall Procrastination Station.

Sister was in town this weekend. We were able to spend Sunday together playing. We decided to have craft night that evening.  We pulled out some water colors, and created patterns for fall leaves.  I used a cookie cutter as my template for the leaves.  Then cut them out of the water colors.  I love fall with all my heart.  Since the leaves don't change in Los Angeles, I make them change indoors.

A Fair is a Smorgasbord.

Nothing says fall like a trip to the Los Angeles County Fair.  Cindee and I had a blast.  Like Templeton the rat from CHARLOTTE'S WEB, we ate our way through the joint.  I love everything about the fair; the bright lights, the rides, shifty people, carnies, greasy food, carnival games, over sized toys....oh, and fried Oreo's and cheesecake!  The Oreo's were photographed above.  Basically they taste like a warm doughnut with an Oreo center.  They are life changing!!  This was the best outing that I've been on in such a long time.  Thanks friends.
