Creativity Tuesday: My talented friend Ramsey Robinson.

My friend Ramsey is pretty dang radical.  He's a bartender extraordinaire at the Big Orange, actor, and painter.  He was also the hero who edited my demo reel {here.}  I received an e-mail from Mr. Robinson yesterday regarding his latest artistic offering, as seen above. Many kudos to you Ramsey! If you are in Los Angeles and want to see Ramsey's pieces, head over to Jairo's {here.}  It's odd to think about, but I feel like my circle of friends are creating material for future history books.  And that is quite thrilling.

Silly Observations.

I found this poster somewhere on line and it made me giggle.  Only because I love both literary series with all my heart.  P.S. I look forward to seeing HP7 again in the theaters.

I'm Very Thankful...

I have so much gratitude in my heart right now.  I woke up and doodled some of my favorite things to commemorate Thanksgiving 2010.  I didn't take one picture yesterday!  I had so much fun I forgot-which is so very unlike me.  Yesterday we had dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Beverly Hills.  We dined with Rachel and Court Noble, and Court's parent's.  It was lovely.  We shared an amazing meal, conversation, memories, and later a movie!  Thank you Nobles for adopting the Yazzies.

I'm thankful for.....

  1. Religion.  My faith has always kept me centered, grounded, and brought me the true meaning of happiness.

  2. My family.  What a motley crew we are!  Misfits, renegades, minstrels, artists, dreamers.  I love each of you with my entire cardiac chamber.

  3. My husband.  We were meant to be together forever.  I'm positive of that.

  4. Friends.  Thank you for being the family that I get to choose.  Particularly Amber Leann Ford, Janine Suzanne Doot, and Rachel Noble.  You are ALWAYS there for me when I need you.  I love you as sisters.

  5. My passion.  My fancies have come and gone, but since I was four I've always wanted to be an actress.  It remains to be the job that I want to do when I grow up.

  6. Living in Los Angeles.  It was a life time pursuit that came to fruition.  I still have to pinch myself that I live here.

  7. Pretty clothes. I adore you.

  8. Pets.  Soba and Daphne, you are canines extraordinaire.

  9. Food.  Why are you my joie de vive?

  10. Music.  You rock.  Seriously.  Pun intended.

What are you thankful for?

What I Wore Wednesday: Thankful Hand-Me-Down.

It's Thanksgiving Eve!  I went out to breakfast with a friend this morning at a very chic location.  {I'll be back soon with more exploitation of that little gem!}  It is down right chilly in Los Angeles today.  It truly feels like fall.  And not a moment too soon for Turkey Thursday.  I treasured walking the streets of old town Pasadena today.  The merchants scrambling here and there with last minute touches for their window displays.  Parents toting their children happily in the streets.  Stopping for hot cocoa and cider.  Ahhhh, fall.  I am so in love with you.  **Side note, an old woman in the thrift store told me she loved my outfit.  Which illustrates my theory that I dress like an old woman.

Ingredients:

Black Basic Shirt:  $9.99 F21

Organic Black Jeans:  $65.00 Levi Straus

Vintage Striped Tunic:  Gift from Rachel

Vintage Boots:  $150 Aldo

I'm thankful for...

For two years I've had an incredible Chihuahua named after an Asian noodle-naturally. He is the spark of joy in our household.  Soba, you little scrumpet, I love you.

P.S. I've written 500 posts on The Infinite Madness.  500?!  I know.  That's quite a bit.  This has been such a wonderful creative outlet for me.  Thank you to all my kindred spirits that keep me inspired, challenge my intellect, and best of all, make me laugh!

Creativity Tuesday: Alternative Centerpieces.

I'm a firm believer in creating alternative solutions for centerpieces.  Flowers are magnificent, don't get me wrong.  But I think it's fun to let the creative juices flow and try options nouveau.  Last night I reworked my table-scape, and the pumpkin pyramid makes my heart happy every time I see it.  Tres, tres Thanksgiving.

I'm thankful for weekends.

Friday I made Julia Child's recipe for Madeline cookies with Rachel.  They turned out swimmingly.  Saturday Bryan and I went to the Silverlake farmer's market and stock piled up on pluots, green beans, mixed greens, potatoes, cherry tomatoes, and shallots.  Oh, and fresh flowers of course.  Review image above. Urban had a special sale for employees, so Bryan and I bought some treasures on line that we've been pining for.  Saturday night we went to the Hollywood Ward annual Thanksgiving feast, which was lovely this year.  Sunday brought church, the appropriate time for my audition, see blunder {here.}  and two movies; SUBURBAN GIRL and ADAM.  How was your weekend?

HP7 Verdict.

Hands down, best movie to date.  They did an excellent job keeping the screen play moving with interest.  Particularly when nothing happens in the first half of the book.  Loved it.  That was the fastest two-and-a-half hours of my life.  I cannot wait to see the dramatic conclusion.  What did you think Potterheads?

World's Biggest Harry Potter Fan.

In lieu of the film tonight, I thought you should see this clip. It's absolutely incredible. I am a minuscule fan in comparison to this dude's Harry Potter devotion. Who is going to the midnight showing of Deathly Hollows tonight?! Grab your snazziest dress robes and meet me there.

I'm thankful for kick arse music.

Last night's concert was in a league all by itself.  Bunnie and I saw Blonde Redhead at the Music Box Theater in Hollywood.  It was the culmination of everything delightful in one performance; incredible band, brilliant lighting design, clever set design, charming venue, and impeccable sound.  At times it was almost too much to bare, because the experience was so spot on.  Kazu was a siren calling her other worldly strains from an empty ocean.  Amedeo went Jimmy Hendricks on us in the encore; thrashing about on the ground with his guitar.  It was pure concentrate rock and roll.

Creativity Tuesday: Gratitude.

He is my soul mate.  Sometimes I look at him and think, "I am so very lucky he picked me."  He's wickedly handsome, talented, thoughtful, kind, and extremely loving.  He always expects me to give my best, even when I don't want to.  He holds my hand.  He helps others in need.  He's handy, and can build or weld just about anything.  He takes good care of our puppy.  He's a great kisser.  He lives for music, both listening and creating.  He's my shopping partner extraordinaire.  I love him and admire him with a higher frequency as the years pass.  I am indeed grateful for my husband.

Whoops/and Liv.

I went to an audition today and couldn't get inside the locked theater.  Puzzled, I pulled up the information on my phone and realized I was a tad early.  A week early to be exact.  Whoops. P.S. I love these photo booth pictures of Liv Tyler.  She lives somewhere in my Los Feliz hood.  I've never seen her, but Bryan stood in line behind her at our local Albertson's.  "She's taller than me," he coyly reported.

Very Rentable: EVERYBODY'S FINE.

There is no better to time to rent this film then now; upon the precipice of the Holidays.  Robert Deniro plays a widower with four grown children, in which he is extremely proud of their successes.  He invites each of them to come home for a visit.  One by one, each of them cancels.  Unsettled, and lonely he determines to pay a visit to each of his children who are scattered all over the United States.  Through each visit he learns that his children aren't what he thought they were.  The film is about self-discovery, learning to listen, and acceptance in all it's stages.  This film made me want to make some active, positive changes in my own life.  Bryan and I both agreed that it was wonderful.  It will be sure to warm your heart as well.

Creativity Tuesday: Black Ribbon Take Three.

This was a project I started Tuesday, but didn't finish until last evening.  I took two frames and spray painted them three coats of Robin's Egg Blue.  Then I hot glued some pressed fall leaves onto some black card stock.  I threaded the black ribbon through the tops to hang over the fridge. I think the frames are pretty cheeky.  It truly adds some flair to the kitchen.  Further more, it will be fun to update as the seasons change.

Black Ribbon Take Two.

This week I had to send a profile shot for an audition.  Really?  Isn't that sort of weird?  So, this is the picture I sent.  The black ribbon made yet another appearance.

What I Wore Wednesday....Black Ribbon.

Bryan took my tripod to photograph his store for holiday floor sets.  So, alas, no full body shots of what I wore.  Here's a flavor of my upper quadrant.  My fall accessory has suddenly become a simple, black ribbon.  I tie it in a bow, then attach it to a bobby pin.  Or I wrap it at the end of a pretty side braid.  So simple, and yet so George Washington.

It's NOT easy.

I was reading Elsie's blog today on the struggles of being an artist.  Check it out {here.}  I want to share my response to Elsie regarding my pursuit of an unorthodox path.

I totally get it. My husband and I
are both artists living in Los Angeles. It's such an expensive city.
And nothing is easy here. Even something seemingly simple like parking
is such a struggle. Parking tickets, towing, paying to park at the
library, restaurants, shopping. It's ridiculous.

I'm an actress, and I've been nose to the grind stone for years. I
remember when I was in college one of my acting teachers told us to look
to the left, then look to the right. He said, "Less than half of those
people will be pursuing acting within four years." I thought, "Not us.
We love what we do, and we are focused and committed." But, six years
later, most of the people in my graduating class are no longer pursuing
acting.

Because being an artist is hard. It means sacrifices of time and
comfort. It means very little recognition. It means day jobs. It means
having barely enough money to get by. It means that my paycheck is
often imaginary. It means never EVER retreating. Even when it would be
so much easier to have a 401k, 9-5 job.

We are artists because it's a visceral need within us. A desire that
cannot be hushed or denied. I get it. I get it so much I could cry.
But I take comfort in the small benchmarks that keep me sustained as I
go. Because I would be miserable pretending to do anything else but
actively pursuing what I live, and love to do.

Graffiti: Spotted in Hollywood.

I love how this Mr. Peanut-esque creature looks like he's walking down the shadow of the fence.  I wonder if the artist considered that in the rendering.  If so, s[he] is VERY clever indeed.  Loved this edition to my online gallery.

Rentable: The Valet or La Doublure.

Bonjour!  THE VALET is a fun, frothy rental for the weekend.  A Parisian business tycoon named Pierre is caught in a great predicament.  His image was captured by the paparazzi, while leaving for his love nest with his famous mistress, Elena.  She happens to be a tragically, gorgeous model.  Pierre's wife is both angry and hurt, and gives him an ultimatum; the girl or her.  Pierre knows that divorce would be financial disaster as his wife is primary share holder.  Pierre concocts an elaborate scheme, claiming he doesn't know the woman.  Surely, the other man in the photo must be her lover.  Enter your average Joe, or Jean as it were, Francois.  Pierre finds Francois and hires him to pose as Elena's lover until the heat dies down.  Does it?  Watch this tangled mess erupt into laughter and just desserts.  This movie is in French, so be ready for subtitles if you don't speak the language of love!

Moment of Silence.

I adore this picture for oodles of reasons....

  1. He let me take a photo of him.

  2. The Ninja Turtle carving in the works.

  3. He's smiling.

  4. He is so darn handsome.

  5. I'm the girl that gets to make out with him.

Rachel's Surprise.

My trick and treat was finding a gorgeous box filled with my favorite French pastries.....macarons!  Rachel tricked me, by leaving them in my fridge to find later.  My favorite?  I think the raspberry was the best!  Thanks Rachel.  That was the best trick and treat....ever.  Aren't they beautiful?  Have you ever had one?

The Pumpkins.

The pumpkin with the stem nose was mine.  Loved the simplicity of it.

Pumpkin Party.

This year's party was such a wondrous success.  The chili was spicy, the company stimulating, and the quality of carvings was top notch {more carving pictures to come}.  Here were some of my favorite details:

  1. Rachel and Court's pumpkin cupcakes

  2. Soba's squirrel costume

  3. Bryan's free hand Ninja Turtle carving

  4. Listening to the Monster Mash

  5. Fun chili toppings

  6. Rousing conversations on artsy stuff

  7. Inappropriate round of Scattergories

  8. Being among friends

  9. The unequivocal feeling of home and hearth

  10. Fall frivolity
